Emperor Palpatine

Emperor Palpatine

Played by: Ian McDiarmid

Palpatine used to be the Senator of the planet of Naboo during the Old Republic. He had tricked people into ways which gave him great political power. He was later responsible for the falling of the Old Republic, as well as the elimination of almost all the Jedi. He also welcomed Anakin Skywalker to the dark side and taught him how to use the force for evil instead of good; and helped the Emperor hunt down the remaining Jedi.

After Palpatine appointed himself as emperor, he ruled the empire with tyranny, lethal force, and fear. When a few members of the Old Republic started a rebellion, Palpatine decided to destroy what was left of the Senate.

The Emperor set up a system in which the Empire could not function without him. He kept confusion around his advisors, so that he was the only one who knew what was going on. Even though the Emperor is an old, helpless looking man, no one would dare face him.

In Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi, the Emperor finally met with Luke Skywalker, the son of Anakin Skywalker. The Emperor failed at converting Luke to the dark side, so he decided to kill the young Jedi. Right before Luke was done fore, Darth Vader picked the Emperor up and threw him down a shaft in the Death Star, killing him.
